Cup Match - again, only in Bermuda

Only in Bermuda is the MVP of Cup Match not selected on the same day that the contest ends. On occasion, we don't know who the MVP is until weeks later. I think one year, they didn't even choose a MVP because the adjudicators couldn't agree on a person or something.

I'll put the over-under at Friday 2pm this time around but wouldn't be surprised if it took them until mid-August.

Just another 'quaint' tradition of our archaic-at-times summer 'classic'.

On a tangential note, why are we describing the past two Cup Matches as 'drawn'? The appropriate term would be abandoned match should it not? Captain's can't agree to a draw. A draw is a result, and they didn't complete the allotted overs.

Personally, I'm thinking Lionel Cann probably deserves the MVP. But then, I am an East Ender...

It's "island time" Gibbo... hence the delay. No sense in rushing things...

I agree with Jonny for Lionel Cann. If it has to be a westerner, Janeiro Tucker.

Good question about drawn versus abandoned. I think it differs in that the match wasn't forced by rain or a bad pitch or crowd disturbances, hence it's a declared draw. Interesting.

I thought that Stefan Kelly's performance was amazing. All those overs on the trot, especially in the first innings. However when Janeiro and Lionel both smashed huge and vital centuries you'd think it would go to one of those two batsmen. This may be the kind of year where you'd want the award to be split... but the selectors need to choose quickly, I mean it should not take long to determine it. Maybe the decision needs to be taken out of the clubs' hands and given to an appointed adjudicator. Invite Clive Lloyd or Tony Cozier or someone up just for the occassion.
